If a tooth chips or starts aching over the weekend in Round Rock, rinse gently, control pain and swelling, save any broken pieces, and call Chandler Creek Dental Care at (512) 609-0066. We’re open the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month, so this October that means Saturday, October 10 and Saturday, October 24, and we see emergencies same-day when possible.
Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, which means a full weekend of parties, trick-or-treating and plenty of sticky, crunchy candy across Round Rock, Teravista, Forest Creek and beyond. It also means October 31 is the fifth Saturday of the month, so our office will be closed that day. Knowing what to do before a problem happens can save you a lot of stress, and maybe a tooth.
Here’s a practical guide to handling weekend tooth trouble, from the team at your dentist in Round Rock.
When Our Office Is Open on Saturdays
Looking for a Saturday dentist Round Rock families can count on? Our Saturday hours are designed for people who can’t easily leave work or school during the week. Here’s our full schedule:
- Monday – Friday: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
- Saturday (2nd & 4th of each month): 8:30 am – 2:00 pm
- Sunday: Closed
For October 2026, our open Saturdays are October 10 and October 24. Because Halloween falls on the fifth Saturday, we won’t be open on October 31. If something happens that weekend, call us at (512) 609-0066 and we’ll work to get you in as soon as we reopen on Monday, November 2, same-day when possible.
You can learn more about our Saturday availability on our weekend dentist page.
Chipped or Broken Tooth: What to Do Right Away
Caramel apples, hard candies and popcorn balls are classic fall treats, and they’re also some of the most common culprits behind a chipped tooth. If you bite down and feel something crack, stay calm and follow these steps.
First steps at home
- Rinse with warm water to clean the area and look for any pieces.
- Save broken fragments in a small container with milk or a little saliva and bring them to your appointment.
- Use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek for 15–20 minutes at a time if there’s swelling.
- Cover sharp edges with sugar-free gum or dental wax (found in most pharmacies) to protect your tongue and cheek.
- Chew on the other side and stick to soft, lukewarm foods until you’re seen.
Why a small chip still deserves an exam
Even a tiny chip can expose the inner layers of a tooth or hide a crack you can’t see. Depending on what the exam shows, a dentist may recommend smoothing the edge, bonding, a dental filling, or a dental crown to protect what’s left. Only an exam can tell you which option fits your situation.
Sudden Toothache Over the Weekend
A toothache that shows up on a Friday night can feel endless. Sometimes it’s something simple, like a popcorn kernel or a piece of candy wedged between teeth. Other times, it’s a sign of a deeper problem.
Try these comfort steps
- Floss gently around the sore tooth to remove anything stuck.
- Rinse with warm salt water (about half a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water).
- Take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed on the label, if it’s safe for you.
- Avoid very hot, cold or sugary foods that can trigger sensitivity.
- Don’t place aspirin directly on your gums, as it can irritate the tissue.
Signs the pain may be more serious
Pain that throbs, lingers after hot or cold, wakes you up at night, or comes with swelling or a bad taste may point to an issue inside the tooth. In those cases, the right next step is an exam, not a guess. If the tooth needs root canal treatment, our in-house endodontist, Dr. Faiza Ali, specializes in that care, so you don’t have to be sent elsewhere.
Urgent Now, or Can It Wait Until Monday?
Not every dental problem needs immediate attention, but some do. Here’s a general way to think about it. For personal advice, always call us.
Call us right away
- A permanent (adult) tooth has been knocked out. Gently rinse it without scrubbing, try to place it back in the socket, or keep it in milk, and call immediately.
- A broken tooth with severe pain or visible pink or red tissue in the center.
- Swelling in your gums or face.
- A toothache that over-the-counter medicine isn’t helping.
Usually okay to wait for the next open day
- A small chip with no pain.
- A lost filling or crown with only mild sensitivity. Keep the crown and bring it with you.
- Mild sensitivity that comes and goes.
Go to the emergency room
If you have swelling that’s spreading toward your eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, bleeding that won’t stop, a high fever, or a possible jaw or head injury, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 first. Then follow up with us for dental care.
How We Help With Dental Emergencies
Our emergency dentistry care is built around finding the cause of your pain and getting you comfortable. Patients come to us from all over Round Rock, as well as Georgetown, Hutto, Pflugerville and Cedar Park.
When you come in, we’ll:
- Talk through what happened and how you’re feeling.
- Take digital X-rays or 3D imaging if needed to see what’s going on beneath the surface.
- Explain your options clearly before any treatment begins.
Under one roof, you’ll find Dr. Ravneet Kaur for restorative and cosmetic repairs like crowns, Dr. Faiza Ali for root canal care, and Dr. Jake H. Duong for extractions, implants and IV sedation for patients who feel anxious.
Emergency exam offer
If you don’t have dental insurance, our $89 Emergency Exam helps find the cause of your pain and get you on the road to relief. This offer is for patients without dental insurance and can’t be combined with other offers. We’re also in network with Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, Aetna and UnitedHealthcare, and offer financing through CareCredit, Sunbit, Alphaeon Credit, Proceed Finance and Cherry. Visit our dental insurance page for details.
Halloween Weekend Tips to Protect Your Teeth
A little planning goes a long way while candy bowls are full:
- Skip chewing ice and very hard candies. Let them dissolve instead of crunching.
- Cut caramel apples into slices rather than biting straight in.
- Wear a mouthguard for weekend sports and backyard games.
- Keep dental wax and a small container in your bag in case of a chip.
- Save our number: (512) 609-0066.
