Your first visit to a Round Rock dental office usually includes a quick check-in, digital X-rays, a thorough exam, a professional cleaning when appropriate, and a clear conversation about your treatment plan. At Chandler Creek Dental Care in Round Rock, the goal of that first appointment is simple: get to know you, understand your smile, and make sure you leave knowing exactly where things stand.
Maybe you recently moved to Teravista, Forest Creek or Mesa Park. Maybe you’ve been meaning to find a new dentist for a while. Either way, fall is a great time to get established. October is National Dental Hygiene Month, school and work routines have settled in, and booking now leaves time to take care of any needed treatment before the holidays and the end of the year.
Here’s a step-by-step look at what happens, so there are no surprises.
Before Your Appointment: Getting Ready
A little preparation makes your first visit faster and more useful.
Pick a time that fits your schedule
Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, and on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. We’re closed on Sundays. If weekday appointments are hard to fit around work or school pickups, a Saturday visit may help. You can learn more on our weekend dentist page.
Gather a few things
Bring or have ready:
- A photo ID
- Your dental insurance card, if you have one
- A list of medications and supplements you take
- Any allergies or health conditions
- Notes about past dental work, sensitive spots or concerns you want to discuss
We’re in network with Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, Aetna and UnitedHealthcare. Our dental insurance page has more details.
No insurance? You still have options
If you don’t have dental insurance, our $99 New Patient Special covers your new patient visit. This offer is for patients without dental insurance and can’t be combined with other offers. We also offer a membership plan and financing through CareCredit, Sunbit, Alphaeon Credit, Proceed Finance and Cherry. Visit our new patients page to learn more.
Arriving and Checking In
When you arrive, our team will welcome you, confirm your information and review your health history.
It might feel like a lot of questions, but your overall health and your mouth are closely connected. Some medications, for example, can cause dry mouth, which affects your teeth and gums. Knowing your history helps your dentist give you safer, more personalized care.
This is also the time to tell us about any worries. If dental visits make you nervous, just say so. We’ll explain each step before we do it, and you can ask for a break at any time. For certain treatments, IV sedation is available with Dr. Jake H. Duong, which some patients find helpful.
Digital X-Rays and Imaging
X-rays let your dentist see what isn’t visible during a regular look in the mouth, such as decay between teeth, problems under existing fillings and the health of the bone that supports your teeth.
We use digital X-rays, which display images on screen quickly so we can review them with you right away. Depending on your needs, your visit may also include:
- Intraoral camera photos – small, close-up pictures of your teeth so you can see what the dentist sees
- CBCT 3D imaging – a three-dimensional view used when more detail is needed, such as when planning implants or evaluating a complex tooth
- Primescan digital scanning – a digital impression of your teeth, used for certain treatments in place of messy impression trays
You can read more about these tools on our dental technology page.
The Dental Exam: A Complete Look at Your Smile
Next comes your exam. This is where your dentist puts all the pieces together: your health history, your X-rays and what they see in person.
During a dental exam and cleaning visit, your dentist typically checks:
- Your teeth for cavities, cracks and worn areas
- Existing dental work like fillings and crowns to make sure they’re still in good shape
- Your gums for signs of inflammation or gum disease
- Your bite and how your teeth come together
- Signs of grinding or clenching, which can show up as flattened or chipped teeth
Your dentist will talk you through what they find in plain language. If something needs attention, they’ll show you on the X-ray or camera images so you understand why.
Your Professional Cleaning
Even with great brushing and flossing, plaque can harden into tartar that only professional tools can remove. A cleaning typically includes:
- Removing plaque and tartar above and just below the gumline
- Polishing to smooth tooth surfaces and lift some surface stains
- Flossing to clear areas between teeth
- Personalized tips for brushing, flossing and home care
In many cases, your cleaning happens during the same first visit. If your exam shows your gums need a different kind of cleaning or more attention, your dentist will explain why and may schedule that for a separate appointment.
With National Dental Hygiene Month happening in October, it’s a fitting time to refresh your home routine too. Your hygienist can point out spots you might be missing.
Reviewing Your Treatment Plan
At the end of your visit, your dentist will sit down with you to go over what they found and what, if anything, they recommend.
What a good treatment plan includes
- Clear priorities – what needs attention soon and what can wait
- Your options – there’s often more than one way to address a problem
- Cost information – what insurance may cover and what financing options are available
- Time to ask questions – no pressure to decide on the spot
If you need care like a filling, crown or root canal, much of it can be handled right here. Our team includes Dr. Ravneet Kaur for general, restorative and cosmetic care, Dr. Jake H. Duong for extractions and implants, and Dr. Faiza Ali, our in-house endodontist (root canal specialist). You can learn about the everyday care we provide on our general dentistry page.
Every smile is different, so the best way to know what’s right for you is to come in for an exam and personal advice.
Local Tips for a Smooth Fall Visit
A few practical pointers for Round Rock-area patients:
- Plan around traffic. Our office is at 2200 N A W Grimes Blvd, Suite 100. If you’re coming from Georgetown, Hutto, Pflugerville or Cedar Park, give yourself a little extra time.
- Arrive a few minutes early so check-in doesn’t cut into your appointment.
- Book the whole family. If your kids or partner also need checkups, ask about scheduling together. Our family dentistry care covers all ages.
- Don’t wait until December. Schedules tend to get busy as the year winds down, and booking in the fall gives you room to finish any recommended treatment before the holidays.
- Feeling under the weather? Give us a call to reschedule.
